COLLEGE STATION – The James E. Sauls Endowed Scholarship at Texas A&M University in agriculture and life sciences has been established through the Texas A&M Foundation.

The endowment will provide one or more scholarships a year to students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences who are actively pursuing a degree from either the department of animal science or the department of wildlife and fisheries sciences. Preference will be given to members of the Texas A&M University Rodeo Club.

The Texas A&M Rodeo Club is the sponsoring organization of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association-sanctioned team and the producer of the annual All-Aggie Rodeo, one of the oldest traditions on campus and an event now in its’ 90th year.

"The rodeo team is very excited about having this scholarship money to reward our rodeo athletes. Our thanks to everyone who made it possible," said Dr. Al Wagner, rodeo club adviser and team coach.

Sauls graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry from Texas A&M University in 1949. While attending Texas A&M, he was a calf roping member of the first intercollegiate rodeo association team.

Sauls owned and operated Café Capri Restaurant in Addison and raised exotic animals on his ranch in Cisco. He was from Coppell and passed away in 2001 at the age of 72. For more information about this endowment, contact Lee Ann Knox, Texas A&M Foundation, 979-847-9314, l-knox@tamu.edu.
