Plant Science Symposium Set March 5 at Texas A&M University

COLLEGE STATION - Leading researchers in plant science are scheduled to speak at the Molecular and Environmental Plant Sciences Symposium March 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Texas A&M University.

“Plant Biology in the Genome Era” is the theme of the symposium, which will be held in room 301B of Reed Arena.

The following is a list of speakers and topics:

“Getting round the guard cell – Channels at the traffic intersection,” Michael Blatt: professor, department of botany, University of Glasgow, Scotland.

“Applied Photosynthesis: Putting Photosystem I to Work,” Barry Bruce, professor, department of chemical and biomolecular engineering, University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“Plant Development in a Woody Perennial Context: Insights from Poplar Genomics,” Amy Brunner, associate professor, department of forestry, Virginia Tech University.

“Analyzing the role of the kinome in the control of sugar flux with FRET sensors,” Wolf Frommer, associate professor, department of biology, Carnegie Institution of Washington, Stanford University.

“Dissection of Arabidopsis Seed Development,” John Harada, professor, department of biology, University of California, Davis.

“Sugar Regulation of Cell Proliferation via the Arabidopsis Heterotrimeric G Protein,” Alan Jones, professor, department of biology, University of North Carolina.

“Small RNAs and Epigenetic Regulation in the Abiotic Stress Responses,” Jian Kang Zhu, professor, department of biology, University of California, Riverside.
