SAN ANTONIO – To help make residents of San Antonio’s south side aware of various community support services available, the Bexar County Extension Education Association and Good News Lutheran Church will host a community resource fair on Nov. 21.

The fair will take place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Good News Lutheran Church, 11020 Old Corpus Christi Rd. It is free and open to the public, but will be focused on south-side residents, organizers said.

“Our goal is to help families identify and seek out those support services that may be available to them, including service for mental health, food assistance, utility and rent assistance, and health or health education,” said Dr. Connie Sheppard, Texas AgriLife Extension Service family and consumer sciences agent for Bexar County, an event coordinator.

The Extension Education Association is a cooperating organization with AgriLife Extension and supports many of its family and consumer sciences efforts, Sheppard noted.

“We hope the fair will be particularly helpful to families and elderly people living on the south side,” she said.

Sheppard added that many people throughout the county are unaware of the type and variety of community services available to them and how to contact those agencies.

"There will be exhibits by many community agencies serving the south side at the fair,” she said. “It will be a great opportunity for people to come and learn about them and what services they provide.”
