MONAHANS – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices in Ward, Winkler/Loving and Reeves counties will conduct a “PAW” or Predator Awareness Workshop, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Ward County Convention Center.

The convention center is located at 400 E. 4th Street in Monahans.

Six Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered (one laws and regulations; two integrated pest management and three general).

“Fewer large-scale sheep and goat operations in West Texas mean more predator problems for those who are still hanging on,” said Arlan Gentry, AgriLife Extension agent in Ward County. “The purpose of this workshop is to bring area producers up-to-date on what tools and personnel are available to help them protect their flocks and wildlife from the steadily growing predator population.”

Workshop topics will include predator biology, predator control and wildlife management, disease vectors and a code of ethics in dealing with predators. Several demonstration videos will also be shown.

Individual registration is $10 at the door.
