Private applicator training offered in Brady
BRADY - Texas AgriLife Extension Service’s office in McCulloch County will conduct a training Sept. 10 for those needing a Texas Department of Agriculture private applicators license.The training is set from 8-11:30 a.m. at the AgriLife Extension office in McCulloch County, located at 114 W. Main in downtown Brady.
The license allows the holder to buy and apply restricted-use herbicides, said Vance Christie, AgriLife Extension agent in McCulloch County, who will conduct the training.
“We’ve had several requests for the training, and this will probably be the only one we’ll have in McCulloch County this fall,” Christie said. “However, we will still have continuing education unit opportunities on Oct. 5 at our Range and Wildlife Management Field Day here and in December at the Tri-County Ag Workshop which is in Menard this year.”
Christie further stated that the purpose of the Sept. 10 training is to allow home and private landowners to obtain a license to purchase and apply restricted-use, state-limited use and regulated pesticides on property they own or rent, or which is owned by an employer or under general control of the applicator.
“Those wishing to obtain a license for the purpose of applying pesticides for hire must obtain a Commercial Applicator’s License through the Texas Department of Agriculture,” Christie said. “Private Applicator licenses are good for five years, but holders must earn the required continuing education units during the five-year period to maintain the license.” he said.
Individual registration for the training is $25, and an additional $60 license fee will be charged once the test has been passed.
So adequate teaching materials can be ordered, those planning to attend are asked to notify the AgriLife Extension office in McCulloch County by 5 p.m. Sept. 8 by calling 325-597-1295.
