VERNON – Donald Kelm, Texas Cooperative Extension agricultural agent in McLennan County, has been selected as the new administrator for Extension’s District 3, headquartered in Vernon, said Kyle Smith, Extension associate director for county programs in College Station.

"Donald Kelm has provided exemplary leadership in his role as a county Extension agent and as a leader within the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association," Smith said.

Kelm will start in his new position on Nov. 1, where he will supervise 47 agriculture, family and consumer science, 4-H and horticulture Extension agents in 25 counties.

The biggest change, he said, will come when he no longer works directly with producers and clientele in the county and starts providing leadership, guidance and support for the county agents in all aspects of Extension.

Kelm joined Extension in 1987, beginning as an assistant county agent for agriculture in Falls County. He then served as the agriculture agent in Coryell, Limestone and Falls counties before moving to McLennan County in 2002.

He earned an associate degree from Blinn College in 1984; a bachelor of science in animal science from Texas A&M University in 1986 and a master’s degree in animal science from Sam Houston State University in 1987.
