SEGUIN – Childcare providers will be going green in Seguin at this year’s regional training offered by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service.

The session is scheduled from 7:45 a.m.-1 p.m. March 28 at the Seguin Independent School District administration building, Oak Park Mall, 1221 E. Kingsbury Street.

“This training is an opportunity for childcare professionals and others in the childcare industry to learn from experts and get new insights into their profession,” said Dr. Connie Sheppard, AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Bexar County.

The training is sponsored by AgriLife Extension and encompasses several South Central Texas counties, including Bastrop, Bexar, Caldwell, Comal, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays, Travis and Wilson.

The theme of this year’s training will be “Go Green,” and presentations will address childcare issues in conjunction with nature and the environment, according to organizers.

Presentations will include: “No Child Left Inside: Reversing Nature Deficit Disorder,” “Container Gardening,” “Junior Master Gardener,” “Notes from the Land Down Under: Bringing a ‘Little Bit of Nature’ to Your Center,” and “Water and Webbing with Water.”

Cost for the training is $20 per person through March 20 and $25 after. This covers instruction, materials, a five clock-hour training certificate and refreshments.

“The training will also provide a great venue in which to network and is being offered at a more reasonable cost than many other childcare training opportunities," said Jane Parker, AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Travis County and an event coordinator.
